Computer Information Systems Assistant

Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons for the post of Computer Information Systems Assistant – 2 days per week at the offices of United Nations Environment Programme – CAR/RCU, 14-20 Port Royal Street, Kingston, Jamaica.

DURATION: 12 Jan 2009 to 11 April 2009 with possible extension

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


Under the general supervision of Administration, the incumbent will be responsible for providing following IT related assistance to UNEP CAR/RCU:

1. To provide technical assistance and support to UNEP CAR/RCU

  • Install, configure and maintain CAR/RCU computer hardware systems including the internal and external systems server(s) and associated networking components, communication  networks, etc.
  • Troubleshoot computers, printers, scanners and any hardware and/or software when problems arise.
  • Act as technical hot-desk for staff
  • Arrange daily backups and storage of system and network files.
  • Develop plans and services to manage IT related risks and enable appropriately timed recovery from disaster (avoidance of loss of service).
  • Ensure that drivers for the appropriate hardware/software (Video driver, System patch, security patch, etc.) are updated on a regular basis.
  • Assist in the monitoring and operations of CAR/RCU’s data storage systems.



2. To prepare documentation for the sourcing and purchase of IT related equipment and        services

  • Liaise with vendors to obtain information and quotations for hardware and/or software items.
  • Prepare necessary documents to raise purchase requests.
  • Inform CAR/RCU Administration of delivery of ordered items and their locations. 
  • Maintain an inventory for the IT related equipment and assist in conducting the annual inventory survey in coordination with the Administration.

 
3. Others 

  • Provide information technology support to CEP Intergovernmental and Technical meetings where necessary.
  • Maintain various technical databases containing information on IP addresses, computer purchase and incident log.
  • Provide training for users on the UNEP HQ’s current software and applications, Maintain regular contacts with supervisors and technical staff, liaising with companies, and the HQs IT staff;
  • Assist with assessment of office requirements.
  • Other tasks as per the request by the office.

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • University degree in IT field and practical knowledge on server and network maintenance.
  • Relevant working experience required

 

 

SALARY

Starting at JMD 21,600 per month.  Increase based on experience and performance.
