It has been a little over one month since my last entry. The last few weeks have kept me fairly busy, doing a variety of tasks. The highlight this time was helping to prepare for International Day for Biological Diversity (IDB) on May 22. Making plans for this occasion was a great learning opportunity and pushed me out of my comfort zone in so many ways. I remember having to psych myself up to make the first few phone calls to the agencies we would be collaborating with for an Expo and Forum on Island Biodiversity. However, after a while, I became more comfortable relaying and receiving information.

Attending this event, was an interesting experience. I have attended quite a few of these in my lifetime but it was a completely different feeling being on the other side of the display table. We met a few interesting characters but overall it was nice to be able to introduce people to UNEP CEP and some of its work. With the Expo now in the past, I look forward to seeing the outcome of our IDB Photo Competition which was also launched on May 22nd. Not so sure what to expect in terms of support but hoping that we’ll get some good entries.

Challenges Faced
The only minor challenge this time around was in understanding the way things work in the chain of command. I suppose that comes with time.

Lessons Learnt
Even though I almost made a huge blunder while planning for the Expo, I’ve learnt once again how important it is to do thorough research and pay attention to details. The experience also taught me that no one is perfect; so once a mistake is made, simply learn the lesson, laugh (if you can) and move on.
