UNEP, CEP, SPAW, GEF…these are just a few of the many acronyms that I have researched, read about and even referenced during the course of my academic life. But even then, these remained distant representations of entities/programmes that I could only dream about someday working with. This internship was the beginning of making that dream a reality.

It has been a little over one month since my last entry. The last few weeks have kept me fairly busy, doing a variety of tasks. The highlight this time was helping to prepare for International Day for Biological Diversity (IDB) on May 22. Making plans for this occasion was a great learning opportunity and pushed me out of my comfort zone in so many ways. I remember having to psych myself up to make the first few phone calls to the agencies we would be collaborating with for an Expo and Forum on Island Biodiversity. However, after a while, I became more comfortable relaying and receiving information.

Time certainly has flown and my internship has come to an end with the SPAW sub –programme at UNEP CEP. It’s amazing how much I’ve learnt and I smile now as I realize that the onslaught of acronyms that I encountered when I had just arrived, no longer intimidates me.
