2nd Entry

It’s past half time already? Isn’t it crazy how quickly time passes? The second month of my internship is already over and there are only a few weeks left.

Throughout August I continued my work on social media. I have launched my own little social media campaign, #gettoknowCEP, where I introduced the different areas and programmes of the Caribbean Environment Programme. The goal was to highlight more of CEP’s own work, instead of just general information or other initiatives.

I also assisted with some research and general dissemination of information. I started to edit small parts of CEP’s website myself. I also attended meetings with communication officers from other UN agencies in Jamaica, where I actively participated in the planning of events and strategies.

The month of August also bore some struggles and opportunities. My supervisor was on annual leave, which meant I had to use my initiative which enhanced my ability to work independently. I also struggled with a cold, but the office met this with great understanding and support.

Challenges faced
Good time management and working on own initiative
Coordination of tasks when several colleagues are on leave
Coordination of (communication) tasks between different UN organizations

Lessons learnt
Always wear a scarf if you’re not used to the air conditioning
Go to the doctor early when you feel sick and allow yourself to rest
Coordination within the office is important
Take advantage of your colleagues’ knowledge
