Reason for Choosing a UNEP/CEP Internship: To get an insight into the inner-workings of an intergovernmental organization and to develop practical skills I can apply to my future career.
Plans after Internship: Undertake a master's degree in climate change/energy resources and work for an NGO or governmental agency in this particular field.

Helene Hoffmann

Educational Background: BSc. in Oceanography from the University of Southampton (UK) and MSc. in Marine Resource Development and Protection from Heriot-Watt University Edinburgh (UK).
Reason for Choosing a UNEP/CEP Internship: to gain an insight into UNEP CAR/RCU activities related to supporting collaboration and information exchange between countries in the Caribbean Region for improved marine policy and conservation and in particular the designation and management of Marine Protected Areas.
Plans after Internship: To continue to work in the field of marine biodiversity conservation and sustainable marine resource use.

Lowine Hill

Duration of Internship: 5 Months
Educational Background: I have a BSc. in Ecology from Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM), in Montreal, Canada; an MRes. in Marine Ecology  and Environmental Management from the University of Glasgow, UK and more recently, I have obtained an MSc. in Integrated Water Resources Management from McGill University also in Montreal, Canada.
Reason for Choosing a UNEP/CEP Internship: Being from the Caribbean, I wanted to learn what and how marine resources management programmes are being implemented in the region. It is also a great opportunity to learn and contribute to these programmes as well as gain a better understanding of decision and policy making at the intergovernmental level.
Plans after Internship: I really hope to work with SIDS to implement community-based marine protection programmes but also obtain some hands-on experience in NGOs or as a volunteer. Maybe ultimately pursue a PhD in coastal disasters management.



Charlotte-May Mondoux-Fournier

Educational Background: Bachelors of Arts in Communication Studies and Political Science at Concordia University (Montréal, Canada)
Reason for Choosing a UNEP/CEP Internship: Gaining a better understanding of transboundary environmental issues and politics while familiarizing myself with the operating culture of an IGO.
Plans after Internship: Pursue my work as a Communications Officer for a local environmental NGO based in Montréal, start a Certificate in Journalism and apply for Masters programmes in Environmental Affairs.

Educational Background: Recently completed an M.Phil. in Engineering for Sustainable Development at the University of Cambridge. 
Reason for Choosing a UNEP/CEP Internship: To gain experience at an international environmental agency in an area which I hope to pursue my career. 
Plans after Internship: To work in a similar organization particularly in the areas of sustainable development, climate change and/or energy or to pursue the MPA/ID or MPP/IGA at Harvard Kennedy School of Government.

Educational Background: Pursuing MS. in Environmental Sciences and Policy at Johns Hopkins University, Washington, DC
Reason for Choosing a UNEP/CEP Internship: I have been researching and studying marine issues relevant to the Caribbean for the past two years. This is a wonderful opportunity to receive hands-on experience in the region on issues related to land/ocean connections and protection of our marine environment. I hope to gain a greater insight and understanding of the unique challenges faced by SIDS, not only of self-governance, but the statesmanship required to navigate the interdependent demands of preserving shared living marine resources. It is an honour to be selected for this opportunity with UNEP/CEP.
Plans after Internship: I plan to complete my master’s degree and seek a position with an international organization where I may utilize my policy background and environment experience to improve the health of our ocean.

Educational Background: Event Specialist in Business & Administration (IHK), BA (Hons) in International Tourism Management from London Metropolitan University, Mediator (OCR), currently pursuing a MSc in Development Studies with a focus on political ecology at SOAS of London
Reason for Choosing a UNEP/CEP Internship: As Small Island Developing States in the Wider Caribbean Region, UNEP/CEP is the only programme that holistically looks at regional and collaborative strategies to engage all stakeholders for improvements in natural resource conservation. I see this placement as a great opportunity to learn and contribute to AMEP and CETA as well as gain a better understanding of environmental policies development from the perspective of an international institution.
Plans after Internship: After completing my Masters, I’m aiming to target activities of the private sector in tourism and destinations by integrating more accountability and transparency into organisational practices; in particular the interaction of economic and environmental aspects with reference to social justice.

Plans after Internship: return to Barcelona to complete my PhD studies, and then try to work in the environmental management field

Plans After Internship: I plan to finish up my last year of graduate school.  After I graduate from SPEA I hope to find a career that relates to community development.

Reason for Choosing a UNEP/CEP Internship: I chose this internship because working with the United Nations Environment Programme will provide me with invaluable experience in the field that I am very passionate about. I admire UNEP’s accomplishments and what they have done for the environment. I look forward to learning how intergovernmental programs work and how they successfully bring about change.
Plans After Internship: I plan to travel and rock climb for an extended period of time before returning  to Indiana University to obtain my Masters Degree in Environmental Science and Public Affairs.

Reason for Choosing a UNEP/CEP Internship: Jamaica and the region in general needs to place more emphasis on environmental education, especially in Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation, and I wanted a hands-on experience working in this field to match up with the theoretical content presented in class. 
Plans After Internship: : Finish the Master’s programme and work with an organization that will promote socio-economic or environmental policy reform in the island and/or region.

Educational Background: Currently earning a dual masters degree in Public Affairs and Environmental Science at Indiana University School of Public and Environmental Affairs, where I am focusing my studies on sustainability and environmental toxicology. I earned my Bachelors degree in Biological Sciences and Psychology, with a minor in environmental science, from Carnegie Mellon University.
Reason for Choosing a UNEP/CEP Internship: I am interested in pursuing a career in international environmental affairs, either working for the UNEP directly or with it through partner NGOs. I hope that working as a UNEP- CEP intern will provide me with the skills and network necessary to realize this goal. 
Plans After Internship: : I will return to school to finish my degrees, and then get a job in international environmental affairs or consulting.

Reason for Choosing a UNEP/CEP Internship: The internship aligns well with my career goals. I like to work and interact with communities and to contribute in providing solutions to their issues. Being in Jamaica, the internship also offers a great opportunity to experience a new culture and to better understand the environmental issues of a Small Island Developing State (SIDS). 
Plans After Internship: : I plan to go back to United States to complete my Master’s degree and look for job opportunities with international think tanks/organizations like World Bank, United Nations, World Resources Institute. My long term goal is to go back to my home country, India and to make a significant contribution in solving environmental issues.
