The Cartagena Convention Secretariat to participate in the 14th High Level Forum of Caribbean Ministers Responsible for Water & Forum for Solid Waste

Montego Bay, Jamaica | 6 - 12 October, 2018

The period of 6th to 12th October 2018 will be a week of enriching dialogue on water management and solid waste in Montego Bay, Jamaica. The Cartagena Convention Secretariat will be participating in the 14th High Level Forum of Caribbean Ministers Responsible for Water & Forum for Solid Waste.

The Inter-american Development Bank, lead Implementing Agency for the development of the GEF CReW+ full-sized project proposal and the UN Environment as the executing and co-implementing agency will lead the Pre-Technical Sessions on the Proposal Development from 7th-8th October 2018 in Montego Bay, Jamaica. The overall CReW+ objective is to implement innovative technical small-scale solutions using an integrated water and wastewater approach, building on sustainable financing mechanisms piloted through the Caribbean Regional Fund for Wastewater Management. 

The project aims to implement sustainable and replicable solutions that improve wastewater management and significantly reduce the detrimental impacts of domestic wastewater on the ecosystems and on the people of the Wider Caribbean Region.

The sessions will provide an opportunity for the 18 countries of the Wider Caribbean Region to identify their priority needs for the development of the project.

Mr. Christopher Corbin, Programme Officer for Pollution and Communications sub-programme will present the technical paper entitled ‘To Treat and Not to Treat’ on wastewater resource management  and will co-present the Marine Litter Report on Styrofoam and Plastic Bags within the Caribbean Region.

Waste Management: 2nd High Level Forum (HLF 2) of Caribbean Ministers Responsible for Waste Management - 11th to 12th October, 2018

These High level sessions will be held during the Annual 27th Caribbean Water and Wastewater Association Annual Conference (CWWA) in Montego Bay, Jamaica on October 8-12, 2018.
