Help save our Wetlands!

The 6th World Wetlands Day, on the February 2, 2002, will have the theme "Wetlands, water, life and culture" (the same as for the 8th Conference of Parties in November 2002). Ramsar makes a call for contributions and an invitation to action to the government agencies, NGOs, site managers and citizens who are invited to explore cultural issues in their national and local contexts and seek to make their publics more aware of the cultural as well as the natural values of their wetlands.

The Ramsar Bureau is preparing information packs, posters and other items to help get the message across. These will become available in October 2001. The Bureau would welcome examples of the cultural values of particular wet lands around the world - preferably with good photographs - for potential use in some of the material that is being developed, and for reprinting with acknowledgement on the Ramsar Website. Any material on the theme, such as case studies to artwork to music will help the coverage. Please, contact Dr. Sandra Hails at hails@ramsar.org with your ideas.
