Duke University Integrated Marine Conservation Program


Duke University's Nicholas School of the Environment Marine Laboratory will offer a five-week program on the conservation and preservation of the coastal and oceanic environment from July 12 to August 13, 1999.  Applications for the Integrated Marine Conservation Program will be accepted until the program is full.  Scholarships are available.  Applications for general scholarships must be received by March 1, and applications for international student scholarships must be received by April 1.

Meeting of the Interim Scientific, Technical and Advisory Committee (ISTAC) for the Protocol on Specially Protected Areas and Wildlife (SPAW)


Havana, Cuba, 3-6 August 1999


SPAW's Fourth Meeting of the Interim Scientific and Technical Advisory Committee will be held in Cuba on August 3-6, 1999.  Since the adoption of the Protocol in 1990, the committee has met three times on an interim capacity and will continue to hold such meetings until the Protocol enters into force.  ISTAC provides a unique opportunity for the region for Governments, NGO's and experts to meet and form consensus on biodiversity issues, in particular prior to meetings of Convention on Biological Diversity and other relevant consultations.  The Secretariat will make a presentation and evaluation of the major projects implemented under the scope of SPAW and their achievements, since the last ISTAC Meeting in 1995.
