Guiding Principles for implementation of Curricula for Sustainable Tourism in the Wider Caribbean Region

Marriage of technical and theoretical programmes, to be done in ways such as:

1. Internship supervised built into curriculum
2. Student exchange
3. Teacher exchange

• Balance between practice and theory
• Curriculum Development needs to be dynamic
• Regional context and content –national approaches/country specific to certain areas/issues
• Different levels of training/not one curriculum –technical, community, academic/levels, different target audiences
• Partnerships built-in development of the curriculum (private sector participation)
• Accreditation –credit to experience
• Faculty training for inter-disciplinary interactions
• Networking (comes out of regional perspective)
• Involvement of other disciplines –keep up with dynamic/inter-disciplinary and trans-disciplinary aspects
• Consider values/perceptions
• Evaluate needs for training by the industry
