Objective(s):

  • To address eutrophication resulting from excess inputs of nutrients to the coastal zone and adjacent international waters

 

Expected Outputs:

  • Two regional training workshops on technologies and practices for nutrient removal and sewage sludge utilisation;
  • Study tours;
  • Final regional workshop to review lessons learnt.

 

Status:

  • Study tours and regional training workshops completed;
  • Final regional workshop to be held on completion of National activities in Cuba;
  • Efforts to be undertaken to assess possible replication of Cuba Project and development of additional GEF project proposal – Initial discussions held with UNDP and Cuba Authorities in this regard.
  • Consideration to have regional workshop prior to completion of construction of treatment plant and to identify countries and partners for follow up project(s)

 

UNEP CAR/RCU responsible for Regional Component and UNDP for national activities in Cuba.
