Objective(s):

·         To support ongoing work by CIMAB that includes the revision of existing methodologies for the characterization of pollution originating from land based sources in the WCR, the elaboration of an updated methodology to be used region wide for the characterization of land-based point sources of pollution, and the development of guidelines for estimating the load of non-point sources of pollution that reach the coastal areas.

Expected Outputs:

·         Electronic Discussion Group established;

·         Electronic bibliography of pollutant studies and environmental quality studies in the region

·         National reports on the state on the marine environment and pollutant inputs;

·         Recommendations on information systems required for data presentation;

·         Increased collaboration between UNEP CAR/RCU Secretariat, RACs and RAN;

·         Meeting of Experts to finalize Report;

·         Final Draft Updated TR 33 Report to be presented to 12^th IGM for approval; and

·         Outputs to support new Sida supported partnership project “The Know Why-Network”.

Status

·         Funds (US$25,000) mobilized to facilitate Regional Workshop to endorse Updated TR 33 Report to take place in early 2006 prior to 12^th IGM;

• Funds (US$15,000) mobilized to support workshop on Ballast water discharges scheduled to take place in Venezuela in late 2005.
