GEF-IWCAM Project

Integrating Management of Watershed and Coastal Area Management in Caribbean SIDS ( IWCAM Global Environment Facility (GEF) Project)

Funding Required:

Period: Ongoing; Full Project Implementation; Revised Timeline - 2005-2010 (Two PDF Phases completed)

 
Partners: GEF, UNDP, CEHI, 13 Caribbean SIDS

 Objective (s):

  • To improve watershed and coastal zone management practices;
  • To create long-term mechanism for sustainable development;
  • To integrate and coordinate resource management activities;
  • To demonstrate applied solutions and technology within hot-spots and sensitive areas;
  • To reform existing policy, legislation etc. in support of IWCAM

 

Expected Outputs:

  • Reports of three regional workshops;
  • Regional synthesis of priority issues and constraints to action;
  • Approval of Project Development Fund-Block B, Phase II
  • Submission and Approval of full project;
  • Establishment of Project Coordinating Unit at CEHI in Saint Lucia including recruitment of Project Manager; and
  • Convening of First Project Steering Committee Meeting.

 

Status:

  • Final reports of PDF A and PDF B phase completed and submitted to GEF;
  • Final Project Proposal document completed, submitted and approved by GEF;
  • Ongoing discussions with UNEP GEF, UNDP and CEHI to agree on management arrangements for project implementation;
  • Project showcased at regional and international fora including Mauritius Conference in January 2005  and GEF International Waters Meeting in June 2005 in Brazil;
  • Position of Project Manager advertised, Short listing of candidates completed and recruitment expected by October 2005;
  • Focal Points informed of project status; and
  • Request made for updated focal point list.
