GEF Pesticides Project - First Steering Committee Meeting

El 12 y 13 de abril se realizó la primera reunión del Comité Directivo, lanzando formalmente el proyecto en presencia de altos funcionarios de los Ministerios de Ambiente y Agricultura de los gobiernos participantes, del Programa de Naciones Unidas para el Medio Ambiente, PNUMA, del Ministerio de Ambiente y la oficina de la FAO de Panamá, de la Universidad Earth de Costa Rica y de Croplife América Latina.

Se reconfirmaron los compromisos de todos los involucrados y se compartieron los mecanismos propuestos a nivel nacional y regional para la implementación del proyecto.  Se revisaron entre otros el plan de trabajo y presupuesto global del proyecto y los términos de referencia de los proyectos demostrativos y los paneles de asesores.

En los próximos meses, los Comités Nacionales procederán a la preselección de los sectores y entidades implementadoras para los proyectos demostrativos.  Simultáneamente se conformarán los dos paneles de asesores como primer paso a seguir para el establecimiento de las metodologías a seguir en estos proyectos.

On the 12th and 13th of April, the first Project Steering Committee Meeting was held. It formally launched the project in the presence of senior officials of the Ministries of Environment and Agriculture from the participating (countries) governments of the United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP), of the Panamanian Ministry of Environment and FAO offices, the EARTH University of Costa Rica and of Croplife Latin America.

The commitments made by all involved were re-confirmed and the proposed national and regional mechanisms for  project implementation were shared. The global work plan, and budget, the terms of reference of the demonstration projects and the advisory panels were revised.

In the coming months, the National Committees will proceed to preselect the sectors and the implementing entities for the demonstration projects. Simultaneously, the two advisory panels will be formed, as the first step towards establishing the methodologies to be used for carrying out these projects.
