The objective of this workshop is to create national awareness of the LBS Protocol (see related content below) and develop recommendations for accession by the Government of Nicaragua. The workshop is a direct response to needs expressed by member states of the Caribbean Environment Programme (CEP) during a regional Promotional Workshop for Spanish-speaking countries held in Costa Rica in December 2004. The workshop is being driven by MARENA, the CEP's LBS Focal Point for Nicaragua. The Regional Activity Centre in Cuba, Cimab is providing technical assistance and support with funding from a Global Programme of Action initiative via UNEP-CAR/RCU.

The CEP is represented by Coordinator, Nelson Andrade Colmenares. Other participants include key government agencies and NGO's.
