ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION AND AWARENESS
The Caribbean Environment Programme (CEP) has been active in communicating the principals and practices the protection and sustainable development of the marine and coastal environment. One of our aims is to play a key role in informing and exchanging ideas with students, policy-makers and the general public of the environmental issues that face the Wider Caribbean Region. We do this through various environmental awareness publications and activities:
CEPNews - The official newsletter of the CEP. This publication keeps you up-to-date on developments within CEP as well as related events in the Wider Caribbean Region.
CEP Technical Reports - These publications are the results of various projects and activities co-ordinated by the CEP. While not all the reports are yet available in an on-line form, they are all available in paper form from our office.
Public Awareness and Information on Sustainable Tourism - The Caribbean Environmental Network (CEN) Project (1996-1999) consisted of a public awareness and information networking component to encourage proactive management of natural resources within the tourism industry. Tools were developed for education hoteliers and other relevant parties in the tourism industry on the long-term effects of tourism on the environment and on 'best practice' methodologies and technologies.
Training in Marine Protected Area (MPA) Management - This training exercise provides participants with the skills required to conduct training programmes in MPAs in their own countries.
Global Environment Outlook 2000 - The Global Environment Outlook (GEO) Project was launched by UNEP in 1995. GEO produces reports, in printed and electronic formats, including the GEO Report series. This series makes periodic reviews of the state of the world's environment.
Caribbean Environmental Outlook - The Caribbean Environment Outlook (CEO) is part of a UNEP project to produce state of the environment assessments for the countries of the Caribbean, Western Indian Ocean and Pacific Islands. The objective of the CEO is to provide information on the state of the environment in the Caribbean, help identify regional environmental concerns and highlight policy priorities. You may also find information on CEO at The United Nations System-Wide Earthwatch website.
