It assists governments in taking the needed global actions for the sound management of chemicals, promotes the exchange of information on chemicals, and helps to build the capacities of countries around the world to use chemicals safely. This office maintains the International Register of Potentially Toxic Chemicals (IRPTC).

INFOTERRA

Through its network of national focal points INFOTERRA provides the necessary environmental information and information dissemination mechanisms for effective governmental decision-making.

UNEP State of the Environment Reports (SOER)

Formerly referred to as Global Resource Info Database/Global Environmental Monitoring System (GRID/GEMS)

UNEP regularly produces State of the Environment Reports for individual countries and regions. These SOERs provide crucial information on the current status of the environmental health of many different countries. UNEP/GRID Arendal maintains an excellent collection of SOER reports for Central/Eastern Europe and the Newly Independent States.
