Title: Regional Seas Programme Officer L3 - Interlinkages and Programme of Work Implementation

 

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Under the general supervision of the Head, Regional Seas and the day-to-day supervision of the Regional Seas Coordinator, the incumbent will assist the RS Coordinator in the following activities:

 

 

A.     Assist in the developing Regional Seas work with its international partners, including Intergovernmental Organizations (IGOs), such as the United Nations’ International Maritime Organization (IMO), UNESCO-Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC), Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), and other international organizations, such as the World Conservation Union (IUCN);

 

B.    Assist in developing and coordinating Regional Seas work on Marine and Coastal Protected Areas (MPAs) and the High Seas (areas beyond national jurisdiction);

 

C.    Assist the Regional Seas Coordinator in managing the Regional Seas’ Global Initiative on Marine Litter, by:

 

D.    Assist in developing and coordinating UNEP’s work with regards to the Convention on the Prevention of Marine Pollution by Dumping of Wastes and Other Matter (London Convention);

 

E.     Assist in implementing the 4th element of the new RS strategy in supporting knowledge-based policy making, enhanced public participation, education, awareness, and improved reporting on the state of the coastal & marine environment, its resources, and possible threats to them, through amongst others, contributing to appropriate national and regional monitoring and assessment activities;

F.     Assist in implementing the 6th element of the new RS strategy by developing and promoting integrated management, based on ecosystem approach;

 

Work Experience: A minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience of which 2 at the international level.

 

Education: University degree in relevant fields.

 

One year contract with possible extension.
