Second Meeting of the Queen Conch Working Group, Panama City, Panama, November 18-20, 2014

The Secretariat of the Western Central Atlantic Fishery Commission (WECAFC) of the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations (FAO), in association with the Caribbean Fishery Management Council (CFMC) will be hosting the Second Meeting of the CFMC/WECAFC/CRFM/CITES Working Group on Queen Conch (QCWG) from November 18-20, 2014 in Panama.
The purpose of this meeting will be to continue the work undertaken in the first meeting of the Working Group in 2012 and to further contribute to the conservation, responsible management and sustainable legal trade of Queen Conch in the Caribbean region.
The objectives of this Second Meeting of the Working Group are:
- Collect and share queen conch statistics, stock information ,national management plans and regulations that relate to queen conch fisheries, management, conservation and trade
- Review and finalize draft Regional Queen Conch Fisheries management and conservation plan
- Discuss and agree on formats for NDF studies or assessments of Queen Conch stocks that are practical, simple and cost-effective to implement using best practice examples
- Agree at the regional level on conversion factors of Queen Conch at different processing grades of meat and its derivates such as pearls, shells and opercula
